I think most of you have met him in the tales you heard from adults. However, some among you may still not have heard about his story. Let’s then, very briefly, revisit this beautiful tale. Why would we do that? It’s because the hero of my story is Tom Thumb, too. And he will guide us throughout our reading.One day, Tom and his brothers and sisters find themselves all by themselves in the middle of the forest. It’s not quite easy to find your way home in a thick forest.Luckily, Tom Thumb was prepared; he had dropped pebbles along the way. The children managed to return home following these pebbles. However, the adventure didn’t end there.***Fairy Orya started explaining:“Everything started with a lovable nymph emerging from a lake. His name was Ariel. We all loved him. However, he turned to black as he grew up. We failed to realize that he had been feeding on vice. One last vice he will create may cause a colossal catastrophe. He kidnapped the Track Fairy and took her into the depths of the forest so that we can’t help the children lost in the forest. Without the Track Fairy, the lost kids can’t find their way back home, nor can we help them.”“OK. What can I do for you?” asked Tom Thumb.“When the Track Fairy was abducted, the Wise Fairy of our village suggested that you could help us. If you accept, I want to take you to our village.”Tom Thumb thought a little.“You mean, only I can help you, correct?”“Yes. Will you help?”“I’ll do my best,” said Tom Thumb.***Without losing any time, Fairy Orya started explaining the map and compass to Tom Thumb: “As they told us in their song, compasses show us the directions. The letters on the compass represent the four directions. N stands for the North, S stands for the South, East stands for the East and W stands for the West. In order to find your direction, first you have to bring the magnetized needle onto the letter N. While doing so, the compass should be before you. In this situation, the North is before you, the South is behind you, the East is to your right and the West is to your left.”“I got it,” said Tom Thumb. The compass was going to replace the pebbles and crumbs that he used to find his direction in the past.***Tom Thumb noticed that there were instructions on the map, as well. The instructions read:- Let ten lanterns not misguide you. Only five of them will show you the right way. Follow the path to be followed on the map.- Follow the road at the starting point. Turn to the path you will come across. Write “1” on the lantern you have found in the dense forest. Trace the path back to the road.- Proceed up the course. Write “2” on the lantern you have found when you come to the bend. - When you come to the junction of three roads, write “3” on the lantern you have found.- Follow the road. Write “4” on the lantern you have found in the open space in the color of sunlight. Yazar Hakkında: I was born in a small town in the west of Turkey. My father was in the military so I had the opportunity to visit many parts of my country. We travelled a lot, we exchanged good-byes a lot. I was introduced to sports in high school. I loved it so much that I decided to become a physical education teacher, myself. I qualified as a national athlete in my university years. I experienced the excitement of winning prizes in national and international events. My skills and ambition carried me into the military, as an officer this time. After 26 years of service, I retired from the military.These days, I live in İzmir. With the acclaim I received about my previous book, Adding Sports to Life, I wanted to write a book for children.
